Community Classes

FOR AGES 0–4
Weekday classes at Corlears School promote child development, wonderment, and learning in facilities designed just for young children — whether your family is enrolled at Corlears or not.

Schedule and Registration

Through Corlears School's Learn. Play. Grow initiative, we have welcomed hundreds of families into our spaces for free family programming on select Saturdays throughout the school year. It has been so gratifying to create greater access to spaces made just for young children, to connect with a larger community, and to be the steward of new connections and friendships among local families.

Building upon the positive response of that initiative, we are now offering enriching classes that take place during and after the school day. While LPG Saturdays will always remain free, these weekday classes are offered at a competitive price and allow us to redouble our commitment to providing sliding-scale tuition for families enrolled in our school program via the Tuition Equity and Accessibility Model (TEAM).

Experience our facilities and take advantage of our deep expertise in early years education with programming designed by our expert faculty, in addition to partners including Treasure Trunk Theatre and Blooming Bébé, with more to come!

The Importance of Music and Movement in Early Childhood

From infancy onward, children organically and spontaneously respond to and engage in a love of music and movement.

Young children experience music in various ways and settings — whether at home through lullabies at bedtime, or through songs, jingles, and lyrics overheard at events, concerts, and in their neighborhoods and communities. Children begin responding to music at an early age and naturally want to interact with the music they encounter throughout their daily lives.

Music and movement play an important role in early childhood development and the achievement of learning milestones. These activities help with cognitive development, the strengthening of social skills, and the use of fine and gross motor skills found in playing instruments such as the guitar, violin, ukulele, and keyboards. Music and movement also contribute to physical and emotional well-being and encourage children to express themselves safely, spontaneously, and creatively. Movement additionally promotes balance, coordination, and connection.

Both music and movement motivate, encourage, promote, and support developmental domains of growth, learning, and achievement throughout the lifespan.

About Corlears School

Corlears School is a progressive independent school located in the heart of Chelsea, serving students from toddlers through fifth grade. In the Early Childhood division, the Reggio-inspired, inquiry-based curriculum is intentionally aligned to key developmental domains in an approach that emphasizes the art of play and wonderment. In a safe and supportive environment centered on social and emotional development, students of all ages are encouraged to ask questions, think freely, and advocate for themselves and others.

Since 1968, Corlears has specialized in early years education with the belief that these formative years are essential to instilling a lifelong love of learning, and the start of a child's academic life should be nothing short of exceptional.

What is your refund policy?

You can view our refund policies in full via this link.

For any questions or concerns not answered by our policies, get in touch at classes@corlearsschool.org.

My child is enrolled at Corlears School. Will these classes be disruptive to the school program?

No. Drop-in classes that take place during the school day are scheduled in spaces that would otherwise be empty during that time. Our facilities team is also responsible for tidying spaces after each drop-in class so that our students don't experience any disruption to their learning.

These classes are a great way to support Corlears School's Annual Fund and Tuition Equity and Accessibility Model (TEAM), and we encourage your family to get in touch at classes@corlearsschool.org if you have any questions or concerns about this new initiative.

My child is enrolled at Corlears School part-time. Can I register for these classes?

Yes! We would love to have you. As long as the drop-in class doesn't overlap with your child's school hours, you can register for any class you like.

Do you offer sliding scale pricing?

Families currently enrolled at Corlears School can email us at classes@corlearsschool.org to request a discount code, subject to availability.

At this time we are unable to offer sliding scale pricing to families not enrolled at Corlears School; however, we encourage you to register for our mailing list to be among the first to know about any special offers as they happen.

The activity I'm interested in is full. What do I do? If your activity of choice is booked up, add your child to the waitlist; spots will open up on a first-come first-served basis. If there's an activity you're particularly keen on, feel free to email the team at classes@corlearsschool.org with more information and we'll do our best to accommodate your family.
Can I drop my child off at these classes? No. Parent participation is required in all programming. Our Community Classes are a great way to meet fellow families with young children!
